Volunteer Job Description
The Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada is looking for individuals who care about the work of the Covenant Church in Canada and their local church. It’s not easy keeping up with all that is going on in the ECCC. The website, prayer e-mail, and Messenger are helpful tools of communication for the ECCC, but nothing beats the personal knowledge of someone in the local church. If you are interested in helping your church community understand the ministry and mission of the ECCC, let us know and become an ECCC Communications Liaison. Read on for more information.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does an ECCC Communications Liaison do?
The liaison is the “on the ground” communicator of all things ECCC to the local church. Once a month the liaison will receive a “communication package” from the ECCC. This package will come in electronic form and may be an announcement for the bulletin, a video, or a verbal announcement to be made on Sunday morning. The liaisons job is to deliver the package to the local church. You might just forward the e-mail onto the administrative assistant (if your church has one) and ask that the announcement be added to the bulletin or you may ask the person in charge of announcements on Sundays for time to make a special ECCC update. We will give you the content, all you have to do is add your own flavor (if you wish) and deliver it. The liaison can also communicate back to the ECCC what the local church might be saying about different ECCC initiatives.
How much time do I need to commit to this?
The beauty is that the ECCC gives you the content so all you need to do is make sure it gets communicated in whatever medium best fits your context. This might mean playing a video on Sunday morning or sending out an e-mail blast to your local church. To start we will do one “communication package” approximately every month. It would help to invest some time in exploring the ECCC website to make sure you understand some of the ministries of the ECCC.
What if I am gone when the “communication package” arrives in my e-mail?
You can either forward it along to someone else like the church administrator or pastor OR you can tell us in advance and we will send it to a suitable contact.
Why is the ECCC doing this?
The ECCC is made up of many churches all of which have different communication styles and needs. Only someone in the local church understands all those nuances. We can send out information that one church may receive easily while another church doesn’t. The liaison can help present information to the local church with local flavour.
Why don’t you just use the church administrator of pastor?
In some cases the ECCC liaison may be the church administrator or pastor, but those folks are often overwhelmed with various tasks and information coming their way. Our hope is that the liaison will take the love he or she has for the ECCC and communicate that ministry to the local church setting.
This is a cool idea, how did you come up with it?
We had some great feedback at AGM in both Winnipeg and Erickson that helped us decide a local person could do the best communication for the ECCC. So many people come to AGM and say “I had no idea the ECCC did …” We do lots of things from church planting to global initiatives and discipleship programming. You can help your local church community understand more of what the Covenant Church in Canada is doing nationally and around the world.
How do I become an ECCC liaison?
Give us a call or send us an e-mail. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have. If your church doesn’t yet have a liaison, we will sign you up. Maybe two of you could team up to make the job easier and more fun.
