Greetings to the fellowship of churches of the ECCC,
May grace and peace abound in your church family as we enter into the beautiful fall season.
As you are probably already aware, our superintendent of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Canada (ECCC) of twenty years, Jeff Anderson, will be finishing his tenure with us as of September 1/17. On October 1/17, Jeff and his wife, Darlene, will be starting a new ministry focus as co-directors of Serve Globally’s newly created Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region for the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC). Consequently, this is a strategic time for our conference as we begin a search process for the future superintendent.
The Leadership Board of the ECCC will be acting as the search committee for this crucial position with the guidance of the ECC President, Gary Walter, and the administrative staff of the larger Covenant denomination. The Leadership Board met in June to discuss the process and timeline and to gain insight with the help of a Succession Planning facilitator. This selection of leadership is important and we will be entering into a careful and prayerful process of discernment, as we identify gifted and godly people, uniquely capable of advancing the mission and ministry of the ECCC.
Here is a brief timeline of our projected process:
Develop a position profile consistent with our Constitution and By-laws.
Announce the position and look for recommendations for candidates.
Determine a short list of candidates to be interviewed.
Candidates will be asked to provide written responses to pertinent ministry questions as well as video speaking clips.
Face to face interviews will be held with 3-5 candidates.
Present a nominee for the ECCC superintendent position to the ECC executive board for ratification.
Once the nominee is ratified, the nominee will be publicly announced.
Nominee to be voted on at the annual meeting of the Canada Conference.
If approved at the ECCC annual meeting, the new superintendent shall be installed at the annual meeting of the ECC with their term of service beginning no later than September 1, 2018.
It is our goal as a search committee to be transparent and communicate well with you as we move through this process. It is also important for us to hear from you. We will be guided by your insights, concerns, questions, and wisdom. Please take the time to fill out a brief survey at this link:
This is a significant moment in time when we are relying on God’s leading and guidance to direct us for the future of the church and advancing the Kingdom in our Canadian communities. Would you prayerfully enter into the discussion with us for Christ’s sake in reaching our world?
Grace and Peace,
The ECCC Leadership Board
